This calligraphy workshop encourages students to understand how the construction of letterforms has their roots in calligraphy writing. Foundational hand has prominent influence on modern typography and the model for today’s roman typefaces, making it a good starting point to venture into roman calligraphy.
The calligraphy workshop aims to bring intangible theoretical knowledge into tangible practice. The learning process of calligraphy enables students to train their physical sensibility on observing the form and counterform (i.e., the positive and negative space) of each letter by knowing how to manipulate the characteristic of a broad-edge writing tool.
